My Mother, Calling Me
©1983 Andrew Calhoun, unrecorded
My mother, calling me
Suppertime, and she's angry
She decides what I can eat
She decides where I can sleep
My mother, calling me
Summertime, and I'm dirty
Bless the water, praise the soap
Pray the Lord my soul to keep
My mother, calling me
Wants to play Monopoly
Don't pass go, go straight to jail
Watch for my Park Place hotel
My mother calling me
Daddy's gone, and she's lonely
He's a no good man, lazy
Swears he drives her crazy
My mother calling me
On the telephone, she's lonely
She's afraid I'm born to lose
Doesn't like the friends I choose
My mother, calling me
Late at night, she's shaky
We say hello, we say goodbye
We are both afraid to die
My mother calling me
From the fields of memory
She is gone where I can't see
But still we know no boundary
My mother, calling me
