Trout
poem by Andrew Calhoun, published in Hay

The extraordinary thing about the trout, Mr. Doubt,
Is the ease with which he breathes underwater;
Head and tail swish and sway,
And the belly knows the way,
And the trout swims all day
Through the river.

Another special thing about the trout, Mr. Doubt,
Are the fins that help him wander through the river;
Let us marvel at the trout,
With fin and scale all decked about,
And the ease with which he breathes
Underwater.
