The Wren's Nest

Written by Robert Burns in the last year of his life, to a tune taken down from the singing of his wife Jean Armour Burns. “Robin” was one of his pet names for himself.
Recorded on Skeins.

The Robin cam to the wren's nest,
And keekit in, and keekit in,
Oh weel's me on yer auld pow,
Wad ye be in, wad ye be in?

Ye'se ne'er get leave to lie without
And I within, and I within,
As lang's I hae an auld clout
To rowe ye in, to rowe ye in.

We sing:

The Robin came to the wren's nest,
And peekit in, and peekit in,
Oh blessings on your old head,
Would ye be in, would ye be in?

Ye'll ne'er get leave to lie without
And I within, and I within,
As long's I have a rag about
To wrap ye in, to wrap ye in.
